#leucocoprinus birnbaumii, aka flower-pot parasol #mushrooms. A very common sight in potted plants. Alas, not edible, but fun to look at.

Here's a weird thing. This is the larva of a thistle tortoise beetle (Cassida rubiginosa). That junk on its back is its frass, aka poop. That's right, these fellows literally carry their shit on their backs. Dang tortoise beetles, that's pretty Effed-up. #beetles #larva #frass #coleoptera #insect #nature #green

This is either a sycamore tussock moth ( Halysidota harrisii) or a banded tussock moth (H. tessellaris) but seeing as, according to BugGuide.net "Adults can only be distinguished by genitalia dissection" I'll just satisfy myself with the conclusion that it is one or the other. #moth #Lepidoptera #insect #nature #outdoors

Thread-waisted wasp in the genus Ammophila (likely either A. pictipennis or A. placida, they're hard to tell apart). These are very active caterpillar hunting wasps. Quite helpful in the garden. #wasp #hymenoptera #insect #garden #nature #outdoors
